15th July: Historic Scotland's Family Trail Event
(Visit Inveraray Castle)
Campbell vs Campbell 1715 – A Jacobite force under General Gordon of Auchintool is sent to the west of Scotland to blockade the Campbell troops under the Earl of Islay at Inveraray and prevent them joining with the main Government army. One of the private soldiers in the ranks of Islay’s forces tells of the encounter between Jacobite Campbells and Hanoverian Campbells, and the chain of events that led to the lifting of the blockade. This presentation will show that not all Campbells fought on the government side and that clan ties could sometimes supersede other loyalties. |

One of the highlights of the Inveraray Games is the Caber World Championships. The caber is thrown and judged on the style of the throw, rather than the distance.
